Zeu Star System

The Zeu Star System had seen a lot of fighting, so much so that dense debris fields of wreaked vessels scattered the system. Close to the systems only habitable planet, two large fleets - one comprising two hundred vessels mostly of small to medium tonnage belonged to the Kushin, who were fighting to retake a system they had lost to the opposing nation, the Vincon'hansaw which had a fleet of just over one hundred. The fleets stood in low orbit over Akeron, the only habitable planet and one that had an active planetary shield to protect it from orbital bombardment. Dropships from both fleets moved to and from the planet - depositing ground troops or reinforcing those already there.

Out of all of the ships in the Kushin Fleet, one stood out amongst them all: a two kilometer long vessel known as the Katalin of Dawn, a Command Battleship that had positioned itself between its fleet and the enemy, shielding several carriers that launched fighters and bombers. Behind were two square shaped vessels that had over half a dozen Kushin ships docked to it, while a third one had its front side pointed toward the enemy - serving as a shield.

Inside the Katalin of Dawn, Admiral Lingreta - a Shukaren who was taller than most of her race - floated in zero-g as she orbited a holographic tank that showed the battle that was presently playing out. She occasionally moved to get another angle on the battle and then rubbed her chin curiously. "What's the enemies status?" she shouted.

"Ninety eight active vessels, two crippled. Their command ship has retreated to the rear," one officer shouted as they bought up the enemy fleets movements which were then relayed to the holo-tank. "They are bringing four vessels forward, configuration match battlecruiser types." The holo-tank focused on the four ships, making them standout from the rest of the vessels.

Lingreta continued to rub her chin as she watched. "Four battlecruisers, if intel is correct, light on the armor but heavy on the weaponry," she looked toward her comm's officer. "Order Fleets Osiris and Gamatron to the front, I want to harass these ships." Her comm's officer nodded, relayed the orders, then a half dozen green dots on the holo-tank suddenly began moving, first from behind the command ship and then ahead. "Inform the wind leaders not to take chances." She wasn't about ready to lose any ships to four vessels that were technically more well armed than her assault ships were.

As the battle played out, one of the communications officer spoke up. "One enemy battlecruiser is down, four of ours are badly damaged and returning to the rear." The officer placed their hand on the headset, as if straining to hear the conversation. "They are requesting permission to offload wounded on the medical frigate." The four ships soon appeared in visual range, passing by one of the ships external camera's and giving a clear view of the damage.

One of the ships was missing most of it's forward section, which would've housed the main weapon. Two others showed various types of damage across their hulls, including dozens of breaches. While another had a hole that went straight through from the top to the bottom, Lingreta knew from that angle that the ship's bridge was more than likely destroyed, and thus it was most likely being flown by the vessels secondary bridge. She gave a quick salute to those who had perished, then turned her attention back to the battle.

By now another of the enemies battlecruisers had been dealt with and disappeared from the holotank. "Two enemy ships left, Osiris Wingleader reporting forty percent lose."

"Pull Osiris and Gamatron back," she sighed as she watched the display and folded her arms over her chest. It was then that her eyes caught something on one of the ships other external cameras, this was followed by a communications officer saying. "Alpha and Echo Fleets are in position, awaiting orders."

Lingreta grinned. "Order them to fire, target the battlecruisers first, then the rest of the fleet." She turned to her left, where she watched as the ships comprising of those fleets, roughly eighty meters long with a stubby nose and a long barrel, moved up alongship the command ship. Muted by the background of space, the war-room brightened as these artillery vessels suddenly fired, a mixture of both energy and kinetic weaponry.

"ETA Till rounds on target," one officer shouted before running calculations. "Thirty seconds."

"Be advised enemy fleet has started moving," the holotank now showed the remaining ninety four enemy ships begin to head straight toward the Kushin fleet.

A death wish? Lingreta mused and shook her head. No, our enemies are not reckless,

She looked toward her staff. "Advise the fleet to prepare for-" her words were suddenly drowned by the ships alert system.

~"Alert! Alert! Unidentified Vessel Emerging!"~ announced the ships AI.

"Report!" The admiral shouted, spinning in the air and taking a hold of the hand rails.

"Sensors are detecting a rift out!"

"Location?!"

"Directly ahead!" a volumetric display suddenly appeared in the war-room, allowing everyone to see, a large hole in the fabric of space began to appear. Suddenly the space between the two mighty fleets lit up; what was once open space full of missiles and kinetic warheads was now occupied by a large vessel with dozens of fires that dotted the hull. Within seconds, the salvo's that the Kushin had fired would impact this unknown ships hull, ripping into it and creating additional fires that spread along the vessels port-side.

Lingreta watched in disbelief, she hadn't seen a ship such as this before and initially wondered if it was some new enemy design. "Can you identify the unknown?!"

"Negative, ships hull doesn't match anything in the database."

"Ma'am, I'm detecting no shielding on the vessel, not even that which is designed for Rift Travel!" the science officer shouted, as the holotank showed a dozen impacts on the unknown ship from Vincon'hansaw weaponry.

For a few moments the ship just seemed to float in space, not doing anything, just then several turrets on the hull came to life as they turned toward both fleets but nothing happened; instead the ship then started descending into the planets atmosphere, belching smoke along multiple hull breaches. It wasn't long before the nose ran straight into the planetary shield, scrapping against it.

Furi'ken
Bridge

Chi'ka found herself tossed the floor, the handrail she had been holding onto had snapped. The entire ship shook violently from external impacts from unknown weaponry, some of which bore deep into the ships hull. She attempted to steady herself, but the rocking of the ship made that more than a little difficult, so instead she brought her tail up to one of the railings and wrapped what she could around it.

Despite the multiple explosions that could now be heard across the ship, the only damage that the Bridge and CiC sustained from it all was a few sputtering consoles. She headed for one of the still working consoles, the ships AI had registered the additional impacts as weapons fire and had taken automated control of the ships turrets but there wasn't enough power for them to fire. Chi'ka was about to bark more orders but the ship shuddered violently, as she looked up at the ceiling.

Mess Hall

For a few seconds everyone would feel themselves become weightless; it wasn't an odd feeling since the crew was more than used to it, what made it odd was the fact that being up high in the air - the group would notice a giant hole in the mess hall.

Neshakushin Empire / (Furi'ken) Prologue - Into Darkness We Go! Part 2

Furi'ken, FTL

Chi'ka sat cross-legged at her console, a pen balanced on the bridge of her nose while deep in thought. "It's been a week since we launched, no ceremony thanks to those fuckers," she remarked with a minor scowl. It had taken three extra days for them to root out what was left of the terrorists that had plagued the school city and even then there were still reports of sporadic fighting, but at least those reports also said that that the youth corp were at the forefront of fighting these pockets and that the navy was able to pull their own forces back.

With a sigh the shipmistress leaned forward and looked at the translucent display in front of her, a text pad opened up and the words 'journal entry' displayed above it. "Not much to really write about, things have been uneventful," as she spoke, the words would appear in the pad. "The crew seems to be in decent spirits, although I've noticed some worried about what this attack might mean."

"We still don't know how they managed to get past the defenses originally," she rubbed her chin. "Nor how they were able to disable some of the anti-air batteries so close to the perimeter, it's a mystery but one I hope is solved in the near future. If not by the forces on the ground, then by us," she grinned.

It was at this point that she turned to look at the cabin window, eyes peering at the white lines that quickly passed by as the ship traveled through FTL. For a moment she just stared, then noticed something strange about the space beyond, a swirling like motion in the background. She was about half way out of her chair when suddenly her cabin, and the entire ship, shook violently.

Neshakushin Empire / Siege of the Capital

Imperial Palace, Kushin Prime
2200 Hours

Thunder boomed outside as the palace was awash with activity, palace workers were running from every which way while soldiers were heading toward the palace balconys. Amidst the organized chaos, the Emperor and Empress walked and inspected the troops as they went about their business. "They know what they are doing," remarked the Emperor, a My'leke whose his tail moved gradually side to side, "Then again with the capital world under threat.." his voice trailed off as the two walked through an open door and onto the balcony.

Rain fell hard onto the stone floor, running off to the sides and then down a gutter. The Empress, a Daur who looked to be no more than five or six in human years, glanced upward towards the sky. "They slipped past our defenses with a small force," she muttered with a scowl as lights began to appear among the clouds. "Weapons at the ready!" She walked toward one of the many gun emplacements that had been set up along the balcony.

"Empress, the city shield is active," one of the soldiers remarked.

Hearing this the girl felt a tingle on her skin and noticed a faint blue cast itself across the sky. Indeed, the city shield was active now and just in-time, a large force of starfighters suddenly broke through the clouds and headed toward the capital, their weapons ablaze. Upon hitting the shield several of the fighters peeled off, but some didn't make it and found themselves splashing themselves across the barrier and leaving behind a trail of broken wreckage.

Suddenly the air erupted as triple-A emplacements opened fired on the remaining enemies, splashing several and causing the rest to flee into the clouds. The torrent of fire stopped briefly, the Empress turned to her side and muttered something to another soldier, who placed their hand up against their ear and spoke a few words into their mic. This was followed seconds later by a thunderous roar that blasted the clouds away, leaving a trail from the point of origin to the point of impact, an enemy warship - measuring three hundred meters long - was struck along it's starboard side, a hole punched clean through with fire erupting from the other side.

The ship listed to port and then began to fall toward the ground below. Another boom, and another ship - this one five hundred meters across - was torn from steam to stern and it to started to fall toward the ground below. The sounds of the guns fell silent as the clouds quickly rolled back in, then the fighers came back out but this time they made their way toward the source of their allies destruction, only to be meet with a torrent of plasma and magitech fire that brought several of them down just outside of the capital's perimeter.

"Status of the 2nd fleet?" The Emperor asked.

The Empress, curious herself, swipped her hand across the air as a transparent screen appeared. "They'll be arriving via emergency jump in less than ten seconds."

"Destination point?" The Emperor asked, but his question was soon answered when the clouds were once again blown aside as dozens of vessels suddenly appeared within the planets lower stratosphere.

The Empress smiled, although this is somethign that the navy didn't like doing since coming out of Rift Space in-atmosphere was very dangerous and could result in damage to the planet or even the surrouding area, sometimes there wasn't much choice. The citizens lives were at risk and she wasn't about to play it safe and wait several hours. She looked at the Emperor, smiled, and then her body faded out of existence.

Stratosphere, KRN-Kojia

"We've arrived ma'am," the helmsmen said as the Empress exited the communications room and walked toward the center of the ship. "Holding steady at 30 kilometers above the ground, all ships are turning in," another officer shouted.

The Empress nodded and turned to look at the holographic display that showed the battlefield. There were over one hundred small ships making up the Vincon'hansaw Naval Force and only thirty of their own. "I feel sorry," she folded her arms over her chest and then grinned. "For them that is," she looked away. "Order all ships to fire, target the lead vessel and ram it!"

Cargohold

The sound of weapons fire kept Chi'ka somewhat near the ground, not out of fear, but because mixed in with the enemies weapons were those of others that were flying over their heads and splashing across the sides of the hull of the Furi'ken. Lucky for us small arms fire is ineffective against the hull of a ship... she muttered to herself and watched as two more enemies went down from her crewmen's onslaught.

Soon, one of the enemy soldiers broke ranks and - pulling a knife - rushed Ay'indri and then another moved toward Micalio while a third made their way toward Barbanov. The last one standing looked around, their eyes falling upon Aiu'tarou and then looking toward Barbanov, apparently unsure whom to attack....

What kind of danger should we have on the planet? Thus far, other than the natural disasters and weather patterns that we have here on Earth, I was also thinking of adopting one of the storms in the game 'Gears of War', being 'Razer Rain', a deadly form of rain.

However, what else do ya'll think we should have?

====== Magic Systems ======

A magic system refers to the methodology, usage, and style of a mage's abilities and their usage of various devices. Three systems are known to exist in the universe: the Kor'don, Yukishe, and Man'deth Systems. Man'deth is subdivided into both Ancient and Modern, while Yukishe is subdivided into Ancient and Practical. Kor'don is not divided, although spells of this school are primarily utilitarian in nature. Each system of magic has its own characteristics, making it easy for one knowledgeable in the arcane arts to differentiate between the systems. Each magical system has its own method of spell classification; although some classifications are shared across all systems, each classification can have a different meaning, depending on the system that uses it.

===== Systems =====

The following lists details the systems of magic used within the known the universe.

==== Kordon ====

The Kordon system, also known as 'Rune Magic', is a prevalent magical system in the universe largely due to its utility - Kordon magic is not heavily combat related, favoring a more 'civilized' use of magic to help in normal everyday life. Kordon has a rather small portfolio of spells, but innovative mages are always discovering new ways to use this most civilized magic for creative uses.

The Kordon system differs from other magical systems with regard to its execution - while other spells may be cast 'on the fly' as the user wills it, Kordon spells must be prepared ahead of time via the inscription of runes. In essence, the mage is 'casting' the spells ahead of time into an inanimate object. These runic spells may be then activated at a later time by any sufficiently knowledgeable mage, triggering their initial effect.

While most Kordon spells are single-use runic spells, more powerful mages can invest more of their power into the runic script, allowing the effect to be reused multiple times or allowing the magic to constantly be active.

==== Man'deth ====

Man'deth is a widely reknowned, combat-oriented magical system which focuses primarily on medium to long range attacks. A person's element plays a huge part in which spells and abilities they have access to; this also means that an individual has restrictions with regard to spells of an opposing element. For example, a person whose main element is water would find great difficulty in using fire magic. A person's element is discovered through, essentially, trial and error - one must search deep within themselves to find the aspect of nature that they connect to most deeply.


Historically speaking, Man'deth is the most prominent magical system. Having been used by the Kash'len Federation, Man'deth was originally only used by their military - after their arrival on Terrene Enigma, the magic found itself split into both Modern and Ancient forms. Ancient Man'deth is a combat stlye more focused on direct attacks, while the Modern style developed a heavy emphasis on wide area attacks.

Man'deth has perhaps the largest, and most complex, array of spells at its disposal, having been in use since time immemorial.

==== Yukishe ====

Where Kordon is utilitarian, and Man'deth is ranged combat, Yukishe is the close-quarters, martial-arts-combat magic system. Yukishe focuses entirely on close quarters combat,  having no long or medium-ranged abilities of any kind, save for defensive spells to protect against such attacks. Instead, Yukishe focuses itself on the martial points of combat. Its spell list is rather simple compared to that of the Man'deth system.

Yukishe magic is different from Man'deth in that the magic used affects the entirety of the person's body, where Man'deth magic focuses on external effects. An individual's elemental alignment has significant effect on what manner of defensive or offensive abilities they have access to, and the effectiveness of the spells they can cast. A person with the Earth element, as an example, would be able to make their bodies more durable than someone with a water element - however, one using the water element would be able to freeze their enemies with but a single touch. In essence, you wish to use your element's strengths to your advantage.

===== Magical Intoxication =====

Magical Intoxication, colloquially known as 'Toxic Mana' or 'Dirty Ether', is the process by which a person's mana becomes contaminated through repeated uses of magic- the more a person casts spells in quick succession, the more 'polluted' their mana becomes. Over time, Magical Intoxication builds up in a person's mana stream and can, eventually, lead to loss of magical abilities - or, possibly, the inability to control their magic during practical use. Magical Intoxication can also lead to illness, as a person may become unable to function on their own until it passes.

Magical Intoxication is something that no mage is immune to; even the most experienced of mages, those who have spent years learning how to hone their craft, are susceptible. Magical Intoxication is more likely to occur if a person uses a more powerfull spell, as large-scale spells require a significantly higher expenditure of mana when compared to lesser spells. It is for this reason that mages are often told to use their magic only when its necessary, and to instead rely on magical devices which, although incapable of utilizing more powerful and more destructive spells, are still able to use lesser spells without drawing upon the mage's mana reserves directly.

===== Element Types =====

There are five basic elements: Fire, Wind, Lightning, Earth, and Water. Fire beats wind beats lightning beats earth beats water, and then repeat. Each element has its advantages and disadvantages, bearing uses unique to each element within society.

However, there is one additional element in the known universe, a 'neutral' element of modest power known as 'Astral'. Astral, unique amongst the five listed elements, pulls its power from the planes of the gods instead of from the energies of the physical world or from the user.

==== Fire ====

Fire magic is arguably the most destructive of the elements. Fire magic is very hard for an untrained individual to control, requiring a great deal of concentration and training in order to utilize it effectively without hurting oneself.

==== Wind ====

Wind magic is different from the other elements; instead of being used in a combat oriented role, wind magic is more commonplace in the transportation area of society. The element of wind is often used by Elementalists to power wind farms, propel airships and naval vessels, and other such applications.

Though it has several practical applications, the element of wind is not one to be underestimated. In combat, Wind magic has a variety of uses, such as making a person faster, or hindering an individual's movement. With regard to Martial Magic, the Wind element is among the most dangerous elements to face due to the ability to dodge and evade physical attacks more easily than others.

==== Lightning ====

Also known as the 'energy' element, Lightning is considered an oddball element in the elemental tree. This is because it governs the use of electrical forces found in nature and - unlike the other elements - is not entirely affected by the environment around the caster. Because of this, lightning is considered more 'neutral' when compared to the other basic elements.

==== Earth ====

The element of Earth embodies strength, and is used by practitioners of Martial Magic to empower their physical forms with the durability of stone itself, or strike their foes with the sheer force of a landslide. The element of Earth is exceptionally versatile in its uses, being useful to practitioners of both Yukishe and Man'deth alike.

==== Water ====

Last amongst the basic elements is the Element of Water. Water magic is the most commonplace in society due to the relatively little effort required to cast magic with the water element. Water magic allows people to move more quickly, aid others in the event of a natural disaster and other uses. It is a very strong element.

==== Astral ====

Astral is considered a purely neutral element; if it were to be part of the 'elemental tree', it would be in the centre of the five. Astral Energy is the energy found in all people, essentially forming a person's 'life force'. All people can access Astral Energy, whether they are aligned with an above element or not - however, Astral Energy has the draw back of pulling directly from an individuals life force to fuel Astral magic. This makes casting Astral spells both very powerful and potentially deadly at the same time.

Due to its rather unknown nature, Astral Energy has only ever been used in a combat oriented role; there is no known use for Astral magic out of combat-centric purposes.

==== Other Forms of Magic ====

Some sages have theorized the existence of other elements beyond these, such elements include, but are not limited to: blood magic, shadow magic, light, and dark magic.

===== How Magic Works ======

Magic in the T.E. Universe works on a completely different level than how magic would function in standard fantasy settings. Unlike how mages in other universe can just snap their fingers and cast a spell, in the T.E. Universe Mana is more constrained and requires the use of specialized devices in order to 'tap' into that store of energy. While low level spells that do not require much power can be easily used without a device, more complex or more powerful spells require the use of an arcane device to cast.

Spells in this universe are, essentially, a collection of computations whose end result is able to alter the physical world around the caster. This is why small spells can be cast without need for external devices - the caster's brain is capable of performing the computations manually. However, more complex or more powerful spells require the use of a more sophisticated computer in order to perform the necessary reality-altering calculations.

===== Mana =====

In a nutshell, Mana is the basic magical power that a person has in their bodies. In some dialects, this energy is known as 'Chi'. The amount of mana that a person has differs considerably on not only their age, but their place of birth, their health, and other external factors that a person may not be aware of.

In addition, mana occurs naturally in the environment. In a 'mana-rich' environment, a mage can easily cast a spell without much worry of their mana reserves being used. However, in a 'mana-poor' environment, a mage has to rely on their innate stores of mana to cast even the smallest of spells. Some areas of Terrene Enigma are naturally overflowing with mana, while others would be veritable mana-wastelands. Fortunately, the planet is in a state of constant flux, with the invisible flows of mana shifting, waxing, and waning as the years go by - just because an area is lacking in mana now does not mean that it will always remain so, and vice versa.

===== General Restrictions =====

Magic might be great in confronting everyday life, but it has quite a few restrictions placed upon it both due to the universe but also due to self-imposed limits by society.

1. Magic can only be used for a certain number of times before a person can become exhausted, this means that a mage can't use magic in a constant fashion; doing so can cause illness or even death.
2. Despite there being wind magic, flying remains exceptionally difficult for any mage due to the absence of mana in the upper atmosphere of the planet. This means that a mage can only fly for a very short distance, as flying magic isn't affected by either rich, or poor, mana areas.
3. Mana doesn't exist in 'Rift Space', thus magical spells can't be used there; however, magical based weaponry that draws upon an individual's mana stores 'can' be used. While engines that run on mana, and batteries that store it, will still be able to function, they will only be able to do so for a limited amount of time.
4. Some spells require a material component in order to be cast. While less powerful spells might only require a common ingredient found in nature, other, higher class spells, would require something more rare.

===== Accessibility =====

While magic can be accessed by anyone with the talent, most higher forms of magic or even higher forms of magical spells require the usage of outside devices in order to access. Depending on ideology, these devices may or may not be restricted amongst the different factions.

The devices can range from being small, wrist sized units; to being very large weapons and staves.

General Discussion / (WIP) - Neshaten (Name will change)

As I plan on bringing the Neshaten over to this site, I also plan on changing their name. There are other changes I plan on making as well.

1. They will still have a monarch, but it will be more military centric than before.
2. Their arrival on the planet is one where they crashed in a forest on a colony ship that had over 8000 souls on board, half of which would've parished in the disaster. They would've lost most of their tech in the crash and due to being nocturnal, they'd have found shelter inside of a nearby mountain which is where their capital city will be located (and will still be expanding by the time the faction is ready)
3. Technology wise I'm still determining, but they won't have energy weapons like they do elsewhere.
4. Their architecture will remain the same.

General Discussion / My Vision for the Site

I was asked a little awhile ago to make a thread basically explaining my vision behind this site, sadly, if I went into absolute detail you'd be looking at an eighty two paragraph thread (no, I am NOT kidding) so I'll merely explain the vision I have right now.

Presently on the net there are a few RP sites out there, some of which that myself and others know of and others that we may not have discovered; however, for a role-player such as myself I have yet to ever find an RP site that blends both science fiction and magic. This setting basically takes place on a planet twice the size of our own earth, now that doesn't mean that space is limited - heck - look at our own planet. Despite thousands of years of humanity existing, there is still plenty of room for more people (though, not necessarily enough for food but eh, we'll tackle that if/when it happens :p)

Now, the planet itself along with its system are located in a region of space that is seemingly devoid of any other stars. Now, why is this? Well, the In-Character reason is due to there being a 'film' that surrounded that region of space, thus blocking out the other stars and making it appear as if the star is the only one that exists. This means that overtime, discoveries can be made that'll cause factions to start to look beyond the planet and see if there are other systems out there.

Undoubtedly I'm going to be asked: Why start this off as being on one planet? The answer is a simple one, because I'd like to start out small and slowly work our way up. If things were to start off big right off the bat then the site and setting would implode into one another. Of course, as mentioned earlier, there are plans to allow magic into the setting - but this isn't the only thing that could be permitted, but others as well such as psychic's. This doesn't mean that technology is obsolete but it does mean that some factions might have a different approach to things than others.

Even though this is my current vision for the site, things could undoubtedly change. Which is why I am making this thread and would like input from others! Now, I am going to run the risk of making this thread open to guests so that people do not need to register, but if it get's filled with spammage then I'll have to restrict it to members :(

The Archive is where all roleplaying threads that have expired will end up. Roleplaying threads are categorized by their factions and thus by their plot-names as well, this helps allow players to easily locate the roleplays they want to read.

Do understand that dead roleplays (roleplays that have been abandoned by their GM's and where no-one has taken up the mantel) can be revived at any moment provided someone steps forward to take over.

Outer Dimensional Roleplay / What is this board for?

This particular board is intended to be used by people who have characters that are located in another dimension, but whom they'd like to bring over into the 'current' dimension, this allows for RP's to be performed to ease those characters in.

However, this forum can also be used by members of the community conclude previous role-plays that their characters are involved in but which might be dead or otherwise inaccessible.

Do understand that bringing characters in from another universe (in other words; from another roleplaying site, or even, another story) is done on a case by case basis, as characters from the alter-verse must be adapted to work within this verse.

Our list of things to do on these forums to get them ready to be opened! Lots to do... so much to do... so... much.... >_<
  • Change the default theme image
  • Add more boards! Its to scarce right now! :<
  • But links to the wiki and main site
  • Create a persistant background image
  • Kill some squids (hey! We need to eat to!)
  • Add in a few plugins to make this place luxurious!
  • And whatever else is needed to get this going!

General News / Excuse the mess!

We've only just gotten these forums up, and it'll be a long while before we open them up for registering by others. However, do not fret! We are working on things! We just need to ensure that the nuclear reactor located at the centre of the planet is working properly, well, and that we don't get swallowed up by a blackhole!
