Things to be decided.

What this thread will be for is figuring out fundamental area that should be ironed out/decided before other things are fully fleshed out.

A big question on my mind, especially at the very start, is:  how much about this world will the characters already know?  This is important, as knowing the answer to this question will tell us how much work in the background needs to be done before we open our doors.

Related questions:

How established are the individual factions/cities/etc when we start?  Will the majority be new arrivals to the planet (initially)?
How will magic work? (in the works)
How much of the magic system has been figured out by the characters?

Also of note - how flexible are the established systems? Can they be altered or are they set in stone?
