(WIP) NPC Species - Mizok
« on: May 06, 2016, 11:57:21 AM »
This is an NPC sentient species that is native to TE and is not meant to be a playable race.

Mizok are a semi-aquatic species that typically live along tropical coastlines and rivers.  They are a primitive, peaceful species whom prefer to avoid conflict, but are willing to trade with other intelligent species.

Mizok stand roughly five to six feet tall and have a muscular, finned tail that is approximately 3/4th’s of their height, with the males always the taller of the two sexes.  Their head is long from front to back, roughly two feet in length, with 2/3rd’s of it in the form of a triangular crest: for males these crests also have additional triangular bumps along the side, the number of which can vary.  At the point where the crest ends on the head, the face slopes and narrows, ending with slitted nostrils and a narrow, yet somewhat deep mouth.   Eyes are large, dark blue, glassy orbs appear to fade into black: a sign they could be compound eyes, but it is yet to be confirmed.

Necks have four gill slits on either side.  Arms are long and thin, hands are human-like, with webbing running between them up to the second knuckle.  Legs are digitigrade, feet sporting four toes that are similar to a frogs.  In addition, males have a pair of short, movable sails located on either side of the spine, running from the top of the shoulder to mid-back.

Skin color is various shades of green/blue green, with darker spotting or stripes along the back and head crest: within these spots are dark blue, semi-luminous, stripes or spots.  The belly side of the body and underside of the feet may or may not have a lighter shade, which can be solid, or splotched.  Tail find and webbing are always a darker green.

Biology (in bullet format for now)
- Have duel-action lungs, meaning they can breathe in both air and water, though the water breathing is more limited.
- are protogynous hermaphrodites.  In layman:  all Mizok are born female, but the oldest, most senior female will eventually become male when the female/male ratio starts to lean too heavily toward females. (More than 8:1 female:male)
- Egg layers, with the eggs similar to that of frogs.  Eggs are laid in either tidal pools, or carefully guarded ‘nests’ made of seaweed and other plants.  Incubation period is unknown.
- Eggs hatch into tadpoles (referred as ‘tads’).  Time to grow into an adult is unknown.
- Lifespan unknown
- Communicate verbally through a series of clicks and whistles.  Suspected they also communicate in another way, possibly a form of telepathy.

Link to a very old concept piece for them:
I intend to redo it for this place, but we'll see how well that goes....
